Chapter 27 A Nest of Snow Clams!

In just a short while, Ye Yaodong found five stone crabs, six or seven shrimps, and several jumping fish. The best catch of all was that large nine-section shrimp.

He continued wandering around the shallow water area, and suddenly exclaimed, "Ah, snow clams! Wow, it's a whole nest of them!"

In this era, there were few people with poor eyesight, especially since he didn't read books. His vision was excellent, and even from a distance, he could see several snow clams with their mouths open and tentacles exposed on the surface of the sand. He quickly took a few steps forward.

"It really is a whole nest!"

"What do you mean by 'a whole nest'?" Little Xiao, who was not far from him, heard his excited voice and turned around to ask.

"Snow clams! I found a whole nest of snow clams. They're all opening their shells and showing their tentacles," said Ye Yaodong as he squatted down and picked one up. As soon as he held it in his hand, its mouth tightly closed shut.

He weighed it in his hand and grinned happily. "They're quite sizable! It's a bountiful harvest! A bountiful harvest!"

He threw it into the bucket with a thud!

Curiously, Little Xiao ran over and took a look, "Wow, what kind of luck do you have? You managed to find such a big snow clam, and even a whole nest of them..."

Ah Zheng also ran over and took a glance, "Damn, what kind of luck did you step into? You've picked up so many stone crabs in your bucket? Look at mine, only two shrimp and two jumping fish, nothing else!"

"Me too! I have even less. I only managed to catch two jumping fish," Chen Wei shouted from a distance, but he also raised his bucket and shook it a couple of times.

"It's just that you guys have bad luck!" Ye Yaodong joyfully picked up all the snow clams gathered together and threw them into the bucket.

Listening to the sound of "thud, thud, thud," everyone was filled with envy and jealousy.

"How many are there in the nest? They're all big and juicy. They must taste amazing!"

He shook the water bucket and made a rough estimation based on their size. There were definitely more than a jin. "I forgot to count, but it seems like there are eighteen or nineteen of them, weighing over a jin."

"Damn lucky! Get out of here! This area is mine to search. Go somewhere else! My bucket is still empty. Aren’t you sorry for me?" Ah Guang waved his long hook with envy and pushed him aside, ready to claim the spot for himself.

Ye Yaodong took a few steps to the side as he was pushed by Ah Guang. "Hahaha, I was wondering why you were so quiet. Turns out your bucket is empty, and you don't have the confidence to speak!"

"Get lost, get lost~ I've claimed this area for myself. You go find another spot and let me have my turn at good luck!"

"I think your bad luck stems from your name. Pei Guang, which sounds like 'losing everything' and 'empty'. No wonder everything goes wrong for you. Don't you realize that you always lose when playing cards? Yesterday was a rare win for you, but overall, things haven't been going well for you in these past years."

He said this with a serious tone, and indeed, Ah Guang's luck has never been great. Even after he moved to Zhoushan, they occasionally had phone conversations, and all he heard were stories of his losses and setbacks!

It wasn't until he was in his forties that someone reminded him to change his name, hoping to turn his luck around.

Unexpectedly, after changing his name, everything started to go smoothly for him. Within a few years, he managed to pay off his debts and even had enough to buy a house for his son's wedding.

Yaodong felt it was necessary to remind Ah Guang, better to believe it than to dismiss it. People from his generation in the countryside have always been quite superstitious.

Ah Guang rubbed his chin and said, "I also feel like my name doesn't bring much luck!"

"How about asking your dad to give you a new name, like Ah Wang? Hahaha~"

"Hahaha~ That's a good one, I like that name too~"

"Well, that won't work. If you were called 'Ah Wang’, you'd be winning at cards every day and I'd end up losing all my money. My pockets would be empty!"

"Yeah, yeah, you're right. Can't go with 'Ah Wang,' too much luck will be a problem. Let's find another name, can't be too lucky!"

Everyone burst into laughter, teasing him with witty remarks back and forth.

"Get lost and mind your own business!" Ah Guang looked disdainfully at his group of teasing friends.

"Or you can change your name to Pei Shun! Smooth sailing and great prosperity!" Ye Yaodong cheerfully walked up to Ah Guang and took his place in the spot where he had been searching. In his previous life, he changed his name to Pei Shun.

"Yeah, Pei Shun sounds good, easy to pronounce, and it has a good meaning too!" Ah Guang was starting to consider the suggestion.

"Yeah, naming does seem to have a lot of mysterious knowledge associated with it. I've heard that fortune tellers nowadays use the principles of the Book of Changes and the Eight Trigrams to calculate a person's destiny, luck, and future prospects based on their birthdate and time. I have a copy of the Book of Changes at home. Should I bring it for you to study? It's always better to believe in something rather than dismiss it completely."

Ah Guang looked at Ah Zheng in astonishment and said, "What's the Book of Changes? You have that? Are you planning to self-study and become a fortune teller?"

"Ha, I stumbled upon it unintentionally while rummaging through my house. There's also a manual on acupuncture points that might have been passed down by my ancestors! Do you guys want to give it a try? It's an ancestral practice, and who knows, maybe we can become martial arts experts!"

"Damn, so your ancestors might not only be charlatans but also legendary martial artists? You even have a manual on pressure points. Do you happen to have the Sunflower Manual or the Demon-Slaying Sword Manual?"

"Do you want to practice? I can recite it for you. 'To practice this skill, one must first castrate oneself.' I don't mind helping you out! How about using a blunt ax? It will allow your bird to stay a bit longer."

"Have you already castrated yourself? That's why you haven't gotten married all this time? Damn, your father only has you as his son. You're so ruthless~ giving up even your little bird~"

"What little bird? You're the one who castrated yourself! Mine is a big bird!"

Amidst their banter, Ye Yaodong was surprised to find a fish with black and gray spots showing its tail under a large stone beside him. He quickly interrupted their conversation and said, "Damn, come take a look under this big stone. Isn't that a grouper fish with its tail exposed?"

"Where? Where is it?" exclaimed Ah Guang excitedly as he ran over and crouched down to look under the large stone. "Damn, it's a tiger grouper! I just circled around this stone earlier, how did I not see it?"

"I told you, you have bad luck. Move aside, let me poke it with the tongs and see if we can make it swim out. It's difficult to catch it when it's hiding under the stone," said Ye Yaodong confidently. He was thrilled because a tiger grouper was a valuable catch!

Others crowded around, unable to resist teasing, "How come you always encounter the best catches? Ah Guang was just wandering around here for a while and didn't see anything!"

"Maybe it's just my lucky day?"

Or perhaps it's the law of nature, where extreme misfortune eventually leads to a reversal of fortune? Even if he were to pee, he might accidentally fall into the sea and die, but through a rebirth, his streak of bad luck has dissipated, and now he’s enjoying an abundance of good luck!

Ah Wei patted Ah Guang's shoulder and said, “When your dad comes back, change your name quickly!”

Ah Guang was also feeling frustrated. He had indeed circled around this large stone, and he thought there should be something there. But he didn't see any fish coming out. As soon as Yaodong mentioned the cluster of snow clams on his side, Ah Guang hurriedly ran over there, all excited.

It's really a streak of bad luck. He circled around here for a while and didn't see anything, but as soon as Yaodong came over, he immediately spotted a grouper. It's really frustrating!
