        Chapte65 First Aid for Drowning

Along the way, Ye Yaodong walked and coaxed his wife. Lin Xiuqing's cheeks blushed, feeling that he was becoming more shameless. He was actually coaxing her in public. Although... Although she hadn't heard it in years...

"You shut up! We'll talk about it at home!"

Ye Yaodong: Saying one thing and meaning another!

"Fine, I'll say it later tonight!"

Lin Xiuqing: It's really... neither anger nor scolding can express it!

After the couple returned home, they waited for a long time but didn't see their sons coming back. Both of them were still at the beach. Worried about their safety, they decided to go out together to check on them and bring back a bucket of seawater to raise clams.

Originally, Ye Yaodong wanted to use plain water mixed with a little salt, thinking it would work just fine. It would only take a small amount of salt. However, Lin Xiuqing insisted that he was wasteful and said that Mother Ye would also want him to bring seawater back instead.

He had no choice but to comply with her.

They were being too thrifty, but in the end, it was all because they had no money!

The two of them hurriedly made their way back to the beach. Just as they reached the shore, they saw many people standing near the waterline on the beach, and there were heads bobbing in the sea.

"What's going on?"

"Did someone fall into the sea?"

The couple exchanged a glance, their brows furrowing tightly. They couldn't help but feel worried, and they both started to run at the same time, hoping it wouldn't be their child.

As Ye Yaodong ran, he began to recall that the village secretary's grandson had drowned before. The hospital was too far away, causing a delay in rescue efforts, and unfortunately, the child couldn't be saved in time. It seemed to have happened in the past couple of years.

Since it didn't involve his own family, he merely treated it as news at the time and didn't pay much attention to it. However, now that he was thinking about it, the memory was still imprinted in his mind.

With this thought in mind, the worry in his heart lessened slightly. However, since he hadn't seen it with his own eyes, he still felt a bit uneasy.

As he arrived breathlessly a few steps ahead, he heard someone shouting from the sea, "We found him, we found him..."

Shortly after, several young adults from the village carried a child as they swam ashore from the sea.

The people at the shore rushed forward anxiously, and soon cries and shouts filled the air, "Ah Bin! Ah Bin! Wake up!"

"Son! Wake up!"

"Ah Bin! Ah Bin!"

"No breath? Oh, my son..."

The scene was filled with chaos…”

"Don't panic... First, press on his stomach to see if we can make him vomit the water in his stomach and wake him up..."

"Or maybe try hanging him upside down..."

The villagers were all well-intentioned and offered various suggestions in a flurry of voices.

The people by the sea were generally familiar with the methods of rescuing drowning victims, but this child had already stopped breathing and his heart had stopped. At this point, the most crucial thing to do was not to hang him upside down to control the water but to perform CPR, which involves chest compressions and artificial respiration.

The emergency procedure of CPR had a low popularity rate in older generations. It was no wonder that rural people like them were unfamiliar with it. It's unfortunate that in his previous life, this child couldn't make it to the hospital in time.

Yaodong felt anxious as he watched. Their lack of knowledge could easily delay the critical rescue time. After all, it was a young life at stake, and the child appeared to be around the same age as his eldest son.

He decisively pushed away the crowd that had gathered around. "What you're doing is not helpful. He has stopped breathing. This way, you're only delaying emergency treatment. We need to perform CPR on him first."

"What is CPR? Yaodong, do you know how to do it?" Father Ye looked worried. Although the people in the village were aware of the current situation and were unlikely to blame them, losing a child could make someone lose their rationality.

"I have learned it," Ye Yaodong replied. He was afraid that if he didn't manage to save the child, he would be blamed. He looked at the child's family members and said, "Should I give it a try? He has stopped breathing! We need to act quickly, and you should hurry to the commune and call for an ambulance from the town."

"Yes, yes, please try quickly," said Chen Houzhong, the village secretary, a middle-aged man in his forties or fifties. His eyes were red as he urged Ye Yaodong to proceed and quickly instructed the child's father to run and make the phone call.

Being able to become a village secretary, Chen Houzhong was not an ignorant person. He knew that the child had already lost vital signs. At this point, they could only try any possible method, even if it meant a desperate attempt. At least what Ye Yaodong said about CPR sounded reasonable.

Ye Yaodong confidently reached out his hand. He felt for the carotid artery in the neck to confirm the absence of a pulse. After ensuring there were no obstructions in the mouth and nose, he immediately began performing chest compressions.

The position is located on the lower 1/3 of the sternum. Place your hands one on top of the other and press downward, reaching a depth of about 5 centimeters. Perform compressions at a rate of approximately 100-120 compressions per minute, alternating with two artificial breaths every 30 compressions. Keep doing this continuously.

This was the first aid knowledge he learned when he worked on the large ship. Little did he expect that this technique would save someone else's life after he himself drowned.

The villagers nearby watched his actions without daring to interrupt, only whispering among themselves.

Ye Yaodong repeated the same movement continuously, and before long, his body was covered in sweat. He felt nervous as well, fearing that he might not be able to save the child. After all, it was a matter of life.

He had experienced death once before, so he cherished life greatly. It was unexpected that he would come across this child in such a situation, but he hoped to save the child's life.

Even after seven or eight minutes had passed, the child still showed no response. The women beside him couldn't help but burst into tears. One of them cried, "Can you do it? Is my son already dead? Can't he be saved? Sob, sob, sob~"

"There is still time. Only after another twenty minutes without any signs of recovery can we determine death."

Upon hearing this, more people began wailing...

"Shut up... Didn't you hear that there is still time? Stop making noise..." Village Secretary Chen choked back his emotions as he reprimanded the women in his family.

"He moved, he moved! He moved his hand; he's coming back to life..." Among the crowd, a sharp-eyed villager shouted.

"Yes, yes, I saw it too!"

Everyone's eyes were filled with a glimmer of hope. He really came back to life.

Ye Yaodong also breathed a sigh of relief, but he dared not stop his hand movements and artificial respiration because, after a short-term recovery, breathing and heartbeats could potentially stop again.

He persisted until he couldn't go on any longer, and then he asked his elder brothers to take turns helping him. Finally, when the ambulance arrived and the child was handed over to the medical staff, he breathed a sigh of relief.

"Wow, I'm so exhausted! My hands are shaking!"

The villagers around him witnessed the child who had stopped breathing come back to life, and they were all very excited.

"Yaodong, you're amazing. Who would have thought you knew this kind of first aid technique?"

"Thank goodness you were here today; otherwise, we wouldn't know what would have happened to Ah Bin..."

"Yeah, you mentioned something about it being called CPR. Where did you learn that?"

"I never expected you to know this, Yaodong."

"At least we managed to save Ah Bin's life. Let's see if he dares to play in the water again in the future."

Everyone started discussing excitedly, but Ye Yaodong didn't say a word. He was exhausted...

"Alright, everything's fine now. The ambulance has left. Everyone, let's go back. Go back."

"Yaodong, next time teach everyone your method. Every few years, we have children or adults drowning in our village. If everyone knows how to do it, it can give drowning victims a greater chance of survival." Secretary Chen patted Ye Yaodong's shoulder, his eyes still red.

"That's great; it's simple!"

"When Ah Bin's parents come back from the hospital, I'll have them come over and thank you. Without you, that child might have really been gone."

Father Ye took over the conversation with a smile, "Secretary Chen, you're being too polite. It's only natural for the villagers to lend a helping hand."

"It's only natural to express gratitude!"

As they walked, everyone exchanged pleasantries and polite words...

NDHSD Chapter 22

◎Happy 22nd Day:  The Winter Water Storage Issue of the People in the Central Region ◎

At two o'clock in the morning, for some young people of the current generation, it was not yet time to enter deep sleep.

For example, Jiang Muyun was having a heated conversation with a few roommates in the alumni group, and there were several young girls downstairs in the opposite building who were quick to react, dressed neatly and holding small microphones, trying to wake everyone up.

Jiang Muyun was familiar with the layout of the Qin family's residence, so she first went to Room 1502 to find the clothes of Qin Shiwen and Qin Shiwu and then went to Room 1503.

The two tall guys in Room 1503 had placed the spare keys on the windowsill of the hallway, conservatively estimated to be two and a half meters from the ground. Jiang Muyun had to go home first and get a chair before she could reach them.

She chose the thickest winter jackets and sweaters from the wardrobe for everyone, including the thick thermal pants that were unattractively squashed at the bottom of the box. She packed them tightly into two large bags.

After Jiang Muyun took the clothes, the young girls downstairs were still calling out to people, but many lights had already been turned on in the residential area. Jiang Muyun heard the intermittent "thank you" being shouted.

Putting on the thick clothes suddenly slowed Jiang Muyun's movements. It took her a lot of effort to find the clothes. By the time she closed the door of Room 1503 with two large bags in her hands, Qin Shiwen was almost there.

The temperature had dropped too quickly, and the temperature difference was too large within a short period of time. Jiang Muyun didn't dare to take the elevator, so she decided to carry the bags and run down the stairs directly.

When Jiang Muyun was going downstairs, those girls probably saw that most of the households had turned on the lights, so they were about to go back into the hallway, preparing to go home.

Jiang Muyun hurriedly stopped them and said, "The temperature difference is too great. The elevator might malfunction. Remember not to take the elevator when you go upstairs!"

One of the girls who ran fast had already pressed the elevator button, but upon hearing Jiang Muyun's words, she immediately retracted her hand and gratefully shouted to Jiang Muyun across the way, "Got it, thank you!"

Jiang Muyun waved at them and then saw Qin Shiwen's car stop right under the streetlight.

Jiang Muyun deliberately put Qin Shiwen's clothes on top so she could take them out directly.

Qin Shiwen got out of the car with the air conditioning on and shivered as she put on the sweater, her movements stiff to the point where Jiang Muyun had to help her stretch the neckline. It wasn't until she put on the down jacket that she felt a bit better.

Jiang Muyun opened the back door of the car, put the bags with the clothes inside, and then got into the front passenger seat herself. A white mist escaped her mouth.

The car's air conditioning was running at full blast. Jiang Muyun rubbed her cold face and took out a thermos from her backpack, along with several paper cups stored in plastic bags.

Amber-colored liquid flowed out, and a pungent aroma filled the car.

Jiang Muyun handed a cup of ginger tea to Qin Shiwen, who gulped it down, causing the hot tea to make her hiss.

"Let's go to the City Hospital first since it's close by. After passing the City Hospital, we'll be near Zhao Jiahao's place."

Compared to Jiang Muyun, who had been shuttling between home and school, Qin Shiwen was obviously more familiar with the roads in South City.

Jiang Muyun nodded and pointed to the two large bags behind, saying, "The black bag contains Wu ge's clothes. Since he hasn't replied to any messages, should we call him when we get to the hospital?"

Qin Shiwen drove the car out of the residential area and thought for a moment, "Let's try calling him now. There aren't many cars on the road at this time. We'll arrive in twenty minutes. If we wait until we get to the hospital to call, we'll have to wait there for him."

If previously, when Jiang Muyun woke her up, it was just an abnormally fast drop in temperature, then now it was definitely an abnormally low temperature.

Such a low temperature was no joke. She was afraid that if they arrived late, the neighbors in Room 1503 would suffer from severe cold. It would be better not to waste any more time.

Qin Shiwu's phone was quickly connected.

"Wu ge, Wen jie and I will be there in about twenty minutes. Where should we meet?"

There was a lot of noise on the other end of the phone.

The sound of rolling wheels, hoarse shouts, crying, and the constant plea of medical personnel to "make way."

From the phone, it could be heard that the hospital was already in chaos.

Qin Shiwu's voice was also a bit hoarse, "Let's meet at the emergency entrance..."

Before Qin Shiwu could finish his sentence, a sharp female voice came from the other end, "Prepare defibrillation here. Someone come and push."

"I'll be busy for a while. I'll find you guys later." Qin Shiwu quickly hung up the phone, and Qin Shiwen and Jiang Muyun exchanged glances.

The car left the residential area, and there were quite a few vehicles on the road. Sirens of different frequencies mixed together, and occasionally, an ambulance with its lights on could be seen whizzing by.

Jiang Muyun and Qin Shiwen hurriedly arrived at the hospital.

The parking lot outside the hospital was already full, so they had to park the car on the side of the road and then run to the emergency building with a bag of clothes.

From a distance, they could hear the bustling noise of the entire building. People were coming and going outside the building, with medical personnel and family members pushing stretchers, running all the way.

When Jiang Muyun and Qin Shiwen arrived at the bottom of the emergency building, Qin Shiwu was leading a few people running out from inside.

Those people were all wearing white coats, their clothes slightly disheveled, and fine beads of sweat on their foreheads. As soon as they came into contact with the cold air outside, strands of white mist dispersed.

Qin Shiwen took out the clothes from the bag and distributed them.

Qin Shiwu and the others expressed their thanks while taking off their white coats and handing them over to Qin Shiwen. They shivered as they put on the clothes.

The City Hospital doesn't have a centralized heating system, so cooling and heating rely on air conditioning. The temperature drop today came too suddenly, and it's impossible to raise the temperature of the entire building with air conditioning in just a few hours.

They had been busy all along, never having a moment to rest their feet, but now, standing still for a while, they felt as if their whole bodies were freezing.

Jiang Muyun took out paper cups and poured ginger tea for each of them.

Qin Shiwu, putting on clothes, said, "We just heard the data. It says the temperature dropped forty degrees within two hours. You didn't turn off your car, did you?"

Qin Shiwen replied, "No, we didn't dare to turn it off. Afraid that once it's turned off, we won't be able to start it again."

Qin Shiwu sighed in relief. "That's good."

After everyone put on warm clothes and their white coats and drank a cup of ginger tea, they finally felt alive again.

From a temperature of minus 30 degrees to minus 10 degrees—that's previously from a temperature of nearly 30 degrees—all at once.

Under these two conditions, the body's perception of cold is completely different.

Without exaggeration, they really couldn't stop and dared not stop. There was always a feeling that if their bodies stopped moving, they would freeze in place.

The hospital is currently short-handed, and Jiang Muyun and Qin Shiwen also need to rush to the fire station. They can’t delay on either side.

Amidst the profuse thanks from Qin Shiwu's classmates, Jiang Muyun and Qin Shiwen headed toward their next destination.

The fire station was not far from the City Hospital. Jiang Muyun made a phone call, and by the time the call ended, they were already close to the fire station entrance.

Outside the fire station, there was also a constant flow of vehicles, not only fire trucks but also many private cars and electric bikes. They all seemed to be temporary returnees.

Some middle-aged men and women, not yet properly dressed, hurriedly ran inside while holding their jackets.

Zhao Jiahao and the others were not as rushed as Qin Shiwu. They even had time to take off one of their layered short-sleeved shirts and put on a sweater.

Jiang Muyun was curious, "I see everything is in chaos outside; how come you two have the time to be meticulous?"

Zhao Jiahao, while putting on his sweater, said, "Most of the emergency calls are going to the bar street. Nine out of ten people there have had too much to drink at night. As soon as they step outside, they lean on the railing and vomit. But they didn't expect the temperature to be so low, and their hands stuck directly to the railing. A trip can bring back eight drunkards."

After putting on his clothes, Zhao Jiahao began gesturing to Jiang Muyun and Qin Shiwen, saying, "I heard there are even people who sleep while hugging the railing. Their faces are stuck to it, and they ignorantly try to tear themselves away but can't."

Jiang Muyun and Qin Shiwen simultaneously covered their faces with scarves.

Li Anxuan, not interested in gossip, took a sip of ginger tea and explained, "The reason you see many returnees is that the higher authorities are organizing a joint meeting, preparing to sound the citywide air raid siren to wake up the citizens."

Zhao Jiahao chimed in, "I heard that there are too many procedures required for the air raid alarm, and it takes time to notify the various communities. The authorities are afraid of running out of time, so they're preparing in two ways. They sent available police cars and fire trucks from major brigades to residential areas to sound their sirens, just to wake the people up."

The task of sounding the sirens was assigned to the major brigades. It was a joint action by several departments, and they didn't have to bear the whole responsibility. Besides, there were limited fire trucks in the station, so even if they wanted to help, there was no place for them to do so.

Therefore, although it seemed bustling outside, these two individuals were not as busy as Qin Shiwu.

Jiang Muyun understood.

It was a practical issue.

An air raid siren couldn't be sounded just for fun; it naturally required time for application and approval.

And at two o'clock in the morning, the official order had to be issued to each community so that community staff could return to their positions and start working, which also took a considerable amount of time.

Moreover, not every community worker lived nearby, and they weren't on standby for twenty-four hours.

Furthermore, a single community was responsible for several residential areas, and some areas were quite large. Even if all the community staff were brought in, it might not be enough.

Not to mention the old city area, where there were more cockroaches in the community office than there were staff members.

By the time these places were mobilized, all the morgue beds in all the hospitals in the city would be in short supply tomorrow.

But the military and police were different. There were people on duty twenty-four hours a day, and the system was accustomed to occasional emergency tasks. Very few people turned off or put their phones on silent at night, so their response speed was naturally much faster than that of the communities.

Jiang Muyun recalled that in her past life, the same approach was taken in West City.

Back then, she was still in the dormitory when suddenly all the student groups exploded with chatter, and then the school broadcast came on.

Before long, the shrill sound of sirens echoed through the university.

At that time, because the school reacted quickly, she didn't realize that the sirens were meant to wake everyone up. She thought there had been an accident due to the rapid temperature drop.

After exchanging a few words, Zhao Jiahao and the others went back.

Although they currently didn't have any tasks at the station, they still needed to be ready at all times in case they were needed somewhere.

The same-city express delivery arrived, and Jiang Muyun and Qin Shiwen didn't have much else to do.

Qin Shiwen dropped Jiang Muyun off at home and then drove back to the provincial team. Before leaving, she asked Jiang Muyun for a few packets of ginger tea.

Jiang Muyun bringing the ginger tea reminded her that she needed to go back and give a cup to the kids on the team. She couldn't help but worry about them.

When Jiang Muyun returned home after a night of running around, she opened the door and saw Little White crouched in the corner, pitifully staring at the entrance.

As soon as Jiang Muyun came in, Little White pounced on her, whimpering and wagging its tail by her feet.

Jiang Muyun went to her room and turned on the warm air from the air conditioner. She scratched Little White's chin and said, "Other dogs bark so loudly; why do you just keep whimpering all day?"

Little White turned its head away and ignored her.

Jiang Muyun glanced at the thermometer: minus sixteen degrees.

It had dropped below the lowest temperature ever recorded in South City.

She took out her phone and opened Weibo. As expected, the trending topics were all related to the temperature drop in various places.

It seemed that the temperature drop came early, not due to geographical reasons.

She checked the weather forecast and looked at the temperatures across the country. It didn't seem to differ much.

Apart from being one day earlier than in her previous life, everything else was exactly the same.

The apocalypse had arrived.

Jiang Muyun flopped onto the sofa. Due to the thickness of her clothes, she bounced twice.

Her phone kept vibrating with notifications. Jiang Muyun checked and saw that it was the community group reminding everyone to store water in time.

She rubbed her head. It had been too long since the last winter with running water, and she had momentarily forgotten about the winter characteristics of South City.

Waking up on a cold morning and finding the tap frozen, was the humble reality for people in the central region during the low temperatures of winter.

Every time Jiang Muyun poured hot water on the tap to thaw it, she felt like a beggar, eagerly waiting for someone to warm up and give her some water.

Sometimes, unfortunate circumstances occurred when she hadn't started winter vacation yet and was in a rush to go to school in the morning. She almost shouted at the tap in her house, "Come on, give me some water, please."

Of course, that wasn't the worst part.

The most miserable thing was pouring hot water only to realize that it wasn't the tap that was frozen, but the water supply was cut off in the area.

NDHSD Chapter 21

Read/NDHSD/Chapter 21

Table of Contents

◎ Happy 21st Day: Digging Three Feet to Find Clothes ◎

Jiang Muyun opened the first blind box and randomly flipped to a page where the female protagonist, who had escaped 99 times, was digging her own intestines barehanded.

According to the book, after extracting her own intestines, the female protagonist walked through the rain all night, filled with despair, and eventually fainted by the side of the male supporting character's car.

Jiang Muyun put down this medical miracle and comforted herself in her heart: At least it's a fantasy novel, which proves that I haven't made a mistake in choosing the general direction.

Then Jiang Muyun opened the second blind box, and under the command of the aloof CEO, millions of troops were mobilized to search for the female protagonist worldwide.

Oops, she got the genre wrong with this one. It's clearly a satirical masterpiece that bravely exposes the dark side of society.

Jiang Muyun sighed and cautiously unwrapped the plastic covering of the third novel.

Among the three carefully selected books, this one had the lowest probability of winning.

After all, you can tell by the title of the book ——《999 Confessions: Pure CEO Spoils Me》

The main focus of the novel is on confessions, clearly indicating a sweet and romantic love story. If it weren't for the shocking number of times, Jiang Muyun probably wouldn't have taken this gamble.

Jiang Muyun took a deep breath and opened it to the middle section.

The first thing that caught her eye were these two words that appeared excessively throughout the two short pages: Mo Leng.

That's right!

Jiang Muyun was ecstatic!

It was the surname of the overbearing CEO male lead!

Although she didn't know who came up with this surname, it was so unique that there shouldn't be any namesakes.

Upon closer inspection, the entire text was filled with "Mo Leng A said xxx," "Mo Leng B said xxx," "Mo Leng C was very unhappy and complained to Mo Leng DE."

Oh, right, this Mo Leng DE was the male lead and the biological father of the 108 treasures.

His temperament was quite unique, so his name had one more character than his sons'.

Jiang Muyun was so excited that she let out a "Wuhu" sound and turned directly to the page she had seen before.

As she flipped, Jiang Muyun felt that the thickness of the book didn't seem right.

Why did it feel like the story hadn't reached halfway from where she left off? But the book was about to reach its end.

Jiang Muyun had a bad feeling in her heart.

She directly flipped to the last page and, as expected, there were a few large characters at the bottom: "Please wait for the next installment."

Jiang Muyun:?

What did she do wrong to be punished like this?

Jiang Muyun could responsibly say that she had searched through those bookshelves and definitely didn't see a second book of "999 Confessions."

Unless this Crystal Studio played a trick and changed the title of the second half of the book.

Jiang Muyun was unwilling to give up.

She took out her phone and searched one by one on online shopping platforms like Dingding Bookstore and Xidu Bookstore.

Obviously, the other party didn't dare sell books online using a counterfeit author's name. They only dared to discreetly distribute them offline, minimizing exposure. Jiang Muyun gained nothing.

Jiang Muyun angrily threw the books, frightening Little White, who shivered and circled around her.

Jiang Muyun picked up Little White and rubbed her, mumbling incoherently, "Little White, your sister is so pitiful."

The result of waiting for ten years is this!

Jiang Muyun suddenly felt disheartened.

She carried Little White and paced around the room three times, reciting the entire book of 《Tao Te Ching》. After completing the whole book, her spirits soared, and she immediately got up with renewed determination.

I don't believe it! Now that I know the title, can't I find the second installment?

So, in the following days, Jiang Muyun frequented the streets and alleys around major middle schools, searching for small book stalls near schools.

She didn't find the book, but there are a variety of snacks in her space.

The food around the school was really diverse and affordable.

Jiang Muyun ran all over the city but couldn't find the second book. She spent a considerable amount of her living expenses, and in the end, she lay in her house feeling disheartened, returning to her reclusive state.

Due to Jiang Muyun's misfortune, Little White gained her own fortune and returned to the days of being able to cuddle with her bad sister every day.

The bad sister was healed by Little White and enjoyed an affectionate time with her. After the affectionate moment, she heartlessly sent Little White back to her nest and closed the door to sleep alone.

In the middle of the night, Jiang Muyun suddenly woke up.

She uncovered the quilt, got out of bed, turned on the light, and shivered from the cold air outside the covers.

Something's not right. Why is it so cold?

Jiang Muyun glanced at her phone and saw the date. It was September 30th, 2 a.m.

If Jiang Muyun's memory serves her right, the first wave of cold weather should have arrived on the night of October 1st.

Could it be that because South City is geographically further north than West City, the temperature drops earlier in South City?

The thermometer in the house hangs in the living room. Jiang Muyun put on her clothes and opened the door, only to see Little White just coming out of her nest.

Jiang Muyun took out the winter nest she had bought earlier from her space, touched Little White's head to comfort her, and hurriedly went to check the thermometer.

This thermometer was specially bought by Jiang Muyun after her rebirth. It can measure temperatures as low as minus eighty degrees.

Jiang Muyun adjusted the scale, and sure enough, the temperature had dropped to five degrees. Judging from this trend, it seems like it will continue to drop.

At the end of September, South City was originally neither hot nor cold, with temperatures ranging from 20 to 30 degrees. At the beginning of October, there would usually be a late summer heatwave, giving tourists who came to South City during the holidays a taste of the city's warmth.

More than ninety percent of the residents in South City were still wearing short sleeves during the day. Unexpectedly, within a few hours, South City went straight from summer to winter.

Jiang Muyun couldn't care less that it was early in the morning and immediately dialed Qin Shiwen's number.

Qin Shiwen answered the call slowly, and it was almost about to hang up automatically when a hoarse and unclear voice came from her side.

"Who is it?"

Jiang Muyun spoke quickly, "Wen jie, wake up! Don't sleep; the temperature has dropped."

Jiang Muyun's voice was loud and coupled with the stimulation of the cold air, Qin Shiwen became considerably more awake.

After a commotion on Qin Shiwen's end, her voice came through, "Why is it so cold? The weather forecast didn't say it would drop in temperature."

The weather forecast couldn't keep up, of course.

It was the same in her previous life, with temperatures dropping more than forty degrees overnight. Those with weaker bodies would silently die in their dreams.

In the time it took Jiang Muyun to call Qin Shiwen, she watched as the temperature on the thermometer dropped two more notches, approaching the red scale line marking zero degrees.

Jiang Muyun urgently said, "This temperature drop is not right. We can't go back to sleep. Are you at home, Wen jie? Is Wu ge awake?"

Qin Shiwen put the phone on speaker and placed it aside. She put on all the long-sleeved clothes she could find while saying, "I didn't go home today. Qin Shiwen is on night duty... Wait, he's calling me."

Qin Shiwen happened to be on duty at the hospital tonight. He had just leaned on the table to rest for a while when the hospital started receiving multiple emergency calls.

He was busy for a while, covered in sweat, and when he finally had a moment of respite, he was startled by the sudden cold.

Then, thinking about the condition of the patients brought in tonight, Qin Shiwen couldn't help but realize what had happened. He immediately made a call to his sister.

After Qin Shiwen hung up, she went to the broadcasting room of the provincial team. After some commotion came from the dormitory building of the provincial team, she went door-to-door, knocking on each dormitory and checking if any team members were still asleep.

Their athletes were different from others; they had strict control over medication intake and could hardly take regular cold medicine. Once they caught a cold, they could only rely on their resistance to fight it off.

After Jiang Muyun hung up on the call to the Qin siblings, she made another call to Zhao Jiahao, but the line was busy twice.

At this time, people in the neighborhood also started to realize something was wrong, and there was a commotion downstairs. Even through the double-layered thick glass of her own home, Jiang Muyun could faintly hear the increasing noise outside.

After the third failed call, Jiang Muyun reluctantly exited the dialing screen and prepared to go directly to apartment 1503. Then she saw the chat messages from the 15th-floor group chat continuously popping up.

【ZJH Still Not Awake: @All members, wake up! Don't sleep! Something's happened!】

【ZJH Still Not Awake: @All members, it's a big problem!】

【ZJH Still Not Awake: @Little White Taking West University Exam Tomorrow, I called you three times and it was busy? Don't sleep, get up quickly! If you sleep again, you'll be gone!】

【Little White Taking West University Exam Tomorrow: @ZJH Still Not Awake,

ZJH, are you really still not awake? I called you three times in a row, but your line was busy. Are you all up or not?】

【An: Good thing you're awake.】

【An: This cooling rate is a bit dangerous. We have been on duty with the team tonight and haven't slept. At first, we felt cold and thought it was a normal temperature drop at night, but we just realized it wasn’t. How are Qin Shiwen and Qin Shiwu?】

They were on night duty with their team tonight, so they were awake all the time and weren't as sensitive to the temperature difference because they didn't feel as cold.

It was only when they couldn't bear it anymore and went to put on more clothes that Li Anxuan sensed that something was wrong.

It wasn't until they talked to their family on the phone that they realized they weren't suddenly feeling cold; the temperature was indeed abnormal. Just two hours ago, they were still sweating from the heat.

And then they urgently called their neighbors on the fifteenth floor.

Unexpectedly, everyone had the same idea, and the phone calls were constantly busy. In their impatience, they didn't realize it and could only bombard the group chat with messages.

【Little White Taking West University Exam Tomorrow: Everyone is awake now. Wu ge is on duty tonight, and Wen jie just got up. I was afraid you two would oversleep at home. I tried calling Zhao Jiahao three times but couldn't get through. I was about to go knock on his door when I saw the group message.】

【ZJH Still Not Awake: Haha, you say I'm not awake, but you called me three times and it was busy.】

【Little White Taking West University Exam Tomorrow: Zhao Jiahao, I advise you to speak nicely. Right now, I'm the only one on the fifteenth floor, and you probably don't have winter clothes in your team, right? :)】

In reality, there were winter clothes on the team.

Their uniforms had removable down inner linings, which they didn't bring home and were currently wearing.

But unfortunately, the temperature dropped too fast, and the uniforms were too loose. Wearing short sleeves with down jackets, they still felt the wind blowing from all sides.

【"ZJH Still Not Awake" retracted a message】

【ZJH Still Not Awake: Sister, it's cold. Clothes, help.】

【Little White Taking West University Exam Tomorrow: Good boy, do you have a spare key at home?】

There are currently three households living on the fifteenth floor. Only the Qin siblings have electronic locks, while the other two households have regular mechanical locks.

If Zhao Jiahao and Li Anxuan don't have the habit of keeping spare keys, then the two of them will probably have to cross-dress today. Alternatively, they can wake up Qin Shiwen and borrow clothes from him.

【An: Don't listen to him; we have down jackets.】

Li Anxuan hit Zhao Jiahao and said, "Do you think people are your dormitory brothers? You want a girl to go out in the middle of the night to bring us clothes. Are you out of your mind?"

Zhao Jiahao hurriedly replied to the message, holding his phone anxiously, "I just said it without thinking. My bad, my bad."

【ZJH Still Not Awake: We both have! Two sets! Proud.jpg】

【Little Bin: It's okay, I'll go pick her up. I also need to bring clothes for my brother. We'll drive over together.】

【Little Bin: Yunyun, bring our clothes as well. The door code is my birthday, reversed year and month. I'll be downstairs to pick you up later.】

After Qin Shiwen finished arranging the kids in her team, she herself was freezing.

Her dormitory on the provincial team was just a temporary place to stay, and she didn't have many clothes there. The temperature dropped too quickly, and she was having a hard time enduring it, so she quickly drove back.

Li Anxuan felt relieved knowing that they were going together in a car.

【An: Okay, be safe, then. The spare key to our house is on the corridor windowsill, and our winter clothes are in the white box in the balcony storage cabinet. Thanks for saving us!】

【Little White Taking West University Exam Tomorrow: Alright, alright. Just wait for the same-city express delivery to pick me up.】

Qin Shiwu suddenly sent a voice message to the group.

【Big Bin: When you come over, bring some extra clothes. Bring my cotton jackets too.】

Many of the residents on night duty with Qin Shiwu tonight were from out of town, and it would be difficult to find someone to bring them clothes for a while. So Qin Shiwu asked Jiang Muyun and the others to bring some extra clothes for them.

Qin Shiwu was probably too busy, as he didn't send any more messages after that. Jiang Muyun didn't delay any longer and put away her phone, preparing to go out.

Although the temperature drop started earlier than expected, Jiang Muyun didn't think the extent of the drop this time would be smaller than in her previous life.

Jiang Muyun had a hat and scarf ready, stuffed a few thick cushions into Little White's nest, filled a thermos with hot water, and poured in several packets of instant ginger tea. Then she carried her bag and headed to the neighboring apartment.

Author's note:

I'm not exaggerating when I say that the thermal insulation effect of the inner lining of my alma mater's winter uniform is terrible. It welcomes the wind from all directions.
